Overview
The trek to Annapurna Base Camp climbs through some of Nepal's richest rhododendron forest into the Annapurna Sanctuary — a glacial basin ringed by Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre and Hiunchuli. It's shorter and less demanding than the full circuit, but the final approach, walled in by ice faces on every side, is one of the most dramatic in the Himalaya.
Highlights
- The Annapurna Sanctuary's amphitheatre of peaks
- Machhapuchhre's sacred, unclimbed summit
